Angelina Jolie sheds tears during a meeting on Capitol Hill after giving an emotional speech on the Violence Against Women Act.

Angelina Jolie meets with senior US officials to discuss domestic violence. The actress previously accused Brad Pitt of abusing his son Maddox on the plane.

On February 10, AFP reported that Angelina Jolie went to the Capitol to ask US lawmakers to pass measures against domestic violence.

In a meeting with high-ranking officials, the actress supported the reform of the law to support medical and legal issues for victims of abuse, especially abused children.Tearful Angelina Jolie asks Congress to pass new Violence Against Women Act | Daily Mail OnlineAngelina visited Capitol Hill Wednesday to help a bipartisan group of senators roll out a new version of the Violence Against Women Act

She got emotional when addressing a packed press conference – and shamed Congress’ ‘silence’ on the matter as they’ve not reauthorized the bill in nearly a decade.

‘Most of all, I want to acknowledge – most of all, I want to acknowledge the children who are terrified and suffering at this moment,’ she said, her voice cracking. ‘And the many people for whom this legislation comes too late.’

‘The women who have suffered through this system with little or no support, they still carry the pain and trauma of their abuse,’ the A-list actress continued. ‘The young adults who have survived abuse and emerged stronger not because of the child protective system, but despite it.’

‘And the women and children who have died, who could have been saved,’ she said.Angelina Jolie, senators announce path forward on Violence Against Women Act - ABC NewsShe got emotional when addressing a packed press conference – and shamed Congress’ ‘silence’ on the matter as they’ve not reauthorized the bill in nearly a decade

‘The reason that many people struggle to leave abusive situations is that they’ve been made to feel worthless,’ she said. ‘When there is silence from a Congress too busy to renew the Violence Against Women Act for a decade, it reinforces that sense of worthlessness.’

‘You think I guess my abusers right. I guess I’m not worth very much,’ the actress continued.

‘That’s why passing this law is one of the most important votes US senators will cast this year,’ she told the lawmakers.

President Joe Biden (then a US senator) was the lead author of the original version of the bill. Subsequent versions of VAWA were passed with strong Democratic and Republican support.

“Fighting domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking is not an issue exclusively for Democrats or Republicans. It’s about justice and compassion,” Joe Biden said at the time.

According to AFP, Angelina Jolie’s call to support domestic violence victims is related to Brad Pitt. During the divorce hearings, the Maleficent movie star repeatedly accused her ex-husband of abusing her son Maddox (then 15 years old). Brad Pitt was later cleared of all charges.

In October 2021, the California Supreme Court decided to change the judge in the divorce of two A-list stars, after the court found Brad Pitt had a connection with the former judge in the division of child custody.
